Since the beginning of Ukia Girls, more than 50 years ago today, Ukia Girls has been exemplary and the beacon of hope for the whole of Ukambani, having been the first Anglican Girls' School in the then Ukambani Deanery which, at the time, included the Counties of Machakos, Kitui, Makueni, Garissa and Kajiado.
The Rural Dean was the late Rev. Canon Jeremiah Mute who was ordained into Priesthood office in 1953. Indeed, it was through his very initiative that this school came about at the beginning of the 1970 decade. One dormitory, Mute Dormitory, was named after him until recently. It would be exciting for girls, especially the Anglican ones, to visit the site of his resting place up in Thui hill, a kilometer or so from where the school is. He later in life, after his wife's demise, married an American Missionary wife, Velma Eshleman who became a Principal here in the late 1970s to early 1980s
The Rt. Rev. Francis Mboya Matui Diocesan Bishop - ACK Diocese of Makueni
Since it produced the most behaved girls in all of Ukambani Region, it wasn't uncommon for the young ministers of the gospel at that time to marry her alumni. A good case in mind is the Rt. Rev. David Mutisya, the Bishop of ACK Diocese of Garissa, whose wife (Mama Askofu) is an old girl of the School having studied here in the early eighties 1980-1983. Her maiden name while here was Eunice Ndunge Kavuku. She is an educationist, formerly a lecturer at Garissa Teachers Training College. With that kind of exemplary shining examples of pioneers, who knows! The first Anglican Female Bishop in Ukambani may come from this school.
Therefore, we bless the present girls and speak prosperity in their endeavor in church work, civil service as well as in the private sector of business owners and entrepreneurs. We bless them with stable Christian families that endure.
May all the girls who pass through this Anglican Ukia Girls' School excel. In the name of God the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. Amen.
